Chin Surgery

Creating a Defined Jawline

If you have a misaligned, protruding or receding chin, cosmetic chin surgery, technically called genioplasty, could be a solution. By surgically repositioning your chin, we can give your facial features balance and create a more well-defined, attractive jawline. To find out if our Knoxville chin surgery is the right choice to help you achieve your aesthetic goals, schedule a consultation with Dr. Nicole Eisenberg today online or by calling us at (865) 410-3075.

What is Chin Surgery (Genioplasty)?

Some people have a chin that is just too small for their face. The lack of chin projection can make the facial features look weakened and the nose appear longer than it really is. Others have a chin that protrudes too far out or is misaligned, which also impacts the appearance, balance and angles of the face. Chin surgery, or genioplasty, can fix these issues. The technique involves changing the position, shape, projection or contour of the chin by correcting the underlying bone framework. The result is harmonious, balanced facial proportions and a more youthful, defined chin and jawline.

Benefits of Chin Surgery

Improves the Appearance of the Chin

Genioplasty can alter the position, projection, contour or shape of your chin to improve its appearance.

Creates Balanced Facial Proportions

When your chin has the correct proportions, it brings balance to the rest of your facial features.

Gives You a More Youthful Jawline

Cosmetic chin surgery enhances the relationship between the face and neck for a more well-defined, youthful jawline.

Treatment Considerations

When you have a consultation with Dr. Eisenberg for genioplasty in Knoxville, she’ll assess your aesthetic goals, overall health and facial structure to determine if chin surgery is the best option for your needs. If it is, we use the latest diagnostic and imaging technology at our practice. This means Dr. Eisenberg can create the most precise, personalized treatment plan to ensure your chin will complement your facial features from the front and the side. She can even show you a visualization of what your chin will look like after surgery.

Most patients choose to have the genioplasty procedure performed under anesthesia, such as IV sedation. At Knoxville Center for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we’re fully licensed to offer safe, in-office anesthesia and we utilize cutting-edge equipment to monitor you throughout the entire procedure.

Once the area has been numbed with local anesthesia and you’ve been sedated, Dr. Eisenberg will make a small incision, either inside of the mouth or underneath the chin. She’ll then recontour and/or reposition the bone and secure the chin in its new place with titanium screws.

After your chin surgery:
  • You’ll likely have some swelling and bruising. This will improve in about a week and should completely disappear after approximately six weeks.
  • Tenderness, tightness, pressure, discomfort and difficulty chewing are normal. Take over-the-counter or prescription pain medication as prescribed and stick with a liquid and soft soft food diet for a few days.
  • Most patients take about a week off of work and will need to wait approximately three weeks post-surgery before resuming vigorous exercise.
  • Results will be visible almost immediately and become more noticeable as the swelling subsides. However, it can take about three months for the final outcome to be completely apparent.
